There are two indelible facts of life that eventually doom authoritarians the world over.
The first is that we all live in a greedy world. By this I mean that material self-enrichment governs the behavior of those who secretly rule the haunted halls of Earthly power. If an idea, or a philosophy, or a way of life does not incur eventual financial benefit to the wealthy and influential people of the world, then they will not entertain it for very long.
The second fact is that there is no profit in vengeance. Someone who is motivated by vindictiveness will go to any extreme, and incur any losses necessary to punish those who they perceive as having harmed them first. And the more fanatical the spitefulness, the less prosperous it ends up being both for its adherent, as well as for the world at large, in the long run.
Why do these two facts condemn authoritarians? Well, it is a common propensity of despots and dictators the world over to take every slight personally, owing mostly to their megalomania, as well as to their fragile ego. And once they have spent enough time in power, they are inescapably drawn to the odious habit of striking names from their list of troublesome adversaries.
Eventually this greedy world will understand two inescapable truths about such a regent: that they are governed by petty and frivolous pursuits, and that their triviality is ultimately bad for business.
This realization is both natural and unavoidable. There is nothing you, or I, or anyone other one person upon Planet Earth can do to prevent it. And once it becomes obvious, the dictator's days are numbered. Maybe it will take a day. Maybe a week. Or maybe several years. But eventually this greedy world will balance its books, and the tyrant will permanently fall from power.
This is not a moral argument. It is not a grandiose pronouncement about the nature of humanity. It is only a humble observation about the way the world works, which I honestly relay to you the reader, in the hopes that it might bring you some solace. Because once you know what in the end becomes of those who try to cheat justice, you will not worry quite so much about the circuitous route that the fulfillment of their destiny takes.
