Bridge Over Troubled Water

Why should we give to others? To answer that question, you must first ask several others. To begin with: What is it like to lose everything you've ever known in this world? All your belongings, all photos of your past, all your memorabilia? What is it like to suddenly become a person without a past, and with no real future? And what is it like to then have a random stranger walk up to you and say "Here: take this blanket, this pillow, these clothes, and this bouquet of flowers. They're free"?

The answer is that it feels as miraculous as the gift of life itself. And that's what you're giving people who have survived hardships like disaster areas and conflict zones when you offer them your aid. Whether that be donating money, lending a helping hand, giving them a place to stay, or saying a silent prayer, whatever you do for them will be remembered fondly by them for the rest of their days on this Earth, if not forever. And they will vouch for you wherever they go in both this world and the next.

If you want to play at being a Deity, then forget about conquering the world. Just give freely to those in need, and you will experience the divine.
