Salt

Crossing deserts, oceans, mountains and seas, the vital Salt Roads linked all cultures of the ancient world: From the Roman Empire to Han China, from the Malian and Ethiopian lands to the Gupta Kingdom. Salt was a vital ingredient of human life, and one which was entirely missing from entire regions of the world. If humankind were to colonize the Earth, the different tribes would have to rely on one another for sustenance. And so these ancient superhighways sprung up wherever civilization took hold, and as long as someone, somewhere cried out for the right to live, men and women would endlessly walk the roads that were without beginning, and without end.
