Pop Goes the World

I have a plan to combat climate change, and I already know that no one will like it. But its legitimacy, feasibility, and efficacy nevertheless remain.

First, every nation on the Earth would pick a major city of theirs to completely and totally evacuate. That means no human beings or animals are allowed to remain behind. Only their possessions, paperwork and ecological footprint are to remain.

Then the top ten nuclear powers on Earth would split the cities between them, and target each one with enough thermonuclear firepower to totally and completely incinerate it.

At Zero Hour, the weapons would be simultaneously deployed, turning several hundred cities into smoldering ash clouds, and littering the Earth's atmosphere with particulate dust that would obscure solar radiation and thereby lower the surface temperatures.

Theoretically, this would lead to enough of a temperature decline to offset even the most pernicious of Carbon Dioxide pollution. Of course, it would only be a last-ditch effort to stave off such severe global warming as to endanger the Earth's habitability. And even then it should be planned only as a last resort. But it still remains an option.

And there you have it. As I said, no one in their right mind would favor or endorse this plan. And if we ever find ourselves in a situation where it would be realistically considered, then may heaven help us all.
